17:00 Introduction Workshop

The Workshop is taught by me, Phyto. It is open for all levels (newbies are welcome 🙂 ). We are gonna go through some easy dances that you can then apply during the live bal with the band. If you don’t have much balfolk experience, want to refresh your muscle memory or simply get to know people in advance? The workshop is for you to be better prepared. Don’t worry - Balfolk is learned on the dancefloor. What you don’t get by the end of the workshop, you’ll catch up by being there and having fun.

You don’t need to register, so bring your friends along last minute ;)  . If you know you want to come, let me know. That’s nicer for planning.

18:00: Live bal with  Duo L’Hêtre Heureux

The Band

Duo L’Hêtre Heureux comes with a guitar and a clarinet. During their tour through germany we have the honour to greet them as our guests on stage for one evening. Wanna hear some of their tunes to get in the mood?

What is Balfolk?

Balfolk is a collection of european folk dances, danced to traditional music ( think accordion, guitar, fluite, violin, some instruments we don’t usually know anymore ;) ) that is either kept in the spirit of the good ol’ times or given a modern twist ( think e.g. beat box, loop machine, jazz, ect.)

In Balfolk you can find couple dances, chain dances, circle dances, group dances or even dances where you change your dance partner every so often during one song.

Balfolk consists of smooth and dreamy Mazurkas and gavotte de l’Aven, playful Scottishes and Hallings, wild Polkas or Bourrees, crazy Jigues or Walzes and a whole bunch of magic. It’s a dance where you get in contact with different aspects of yourself, your dance partner and the whole community on the dancefloor.

Costs

Instead of a fixed entrance we will have a donation box. By not making the entrance mandatory, people with lower finances ( e.G. students) can come too. On the other hand we also want to make sure that we’ll be able to do these things again by covering the expenses and earning our salary.

On a regular ball the entrance fee can be 10 to 20,- depending on your income.

paying the musicians for their music and travel expenses. ( they mostly take 200,- for an evening)

If there are enough donations to cover this, I will take some of it for teaching, organizing and paying the rent for the room.
